solar storage batteries save money

Are you eligible for solar panel grants?

If you’re keen to reduce expensive energy bills and want to save a wealth of money every year, then solar panels could be for you.

If solar panels are of interest, then you’ll probably want to know if there are any grants available to help with the cost of installation.

Although solar grants aren’t as easy to come by as they once were, there are certain schemes available to help you out.

Solar panels really took off around 2010 when the feed-in tariff scheme was launched. This scheme ensures you’re paid for every unit of solar electricity generated onsite.

The technology has improved drastically since then and now thousands of UK homeowners are enjoying huge savings year-on-year.

Solar Panels Grants

Unfortunately there aren’t schemes available for solar grants at the moment, but with the feed-in tariff scheme you have the opportunity to earn a lump sum every year for two decades. This tariff pays you for every unit of electricity produced.

With this tariff scheme there’s the superb opportunity to not only make your money back, but also enjoy a stunning return on investment. In fact, with the tariff and electricity savings combined you can save and earn over £700 a year.

Because of this tariff scheme though it’s important to act quickly if you’re keen on solar. The Government is reducing rates every three months but once you’re locked on, you’ll receive that rate for 20 years.

Solar Thermal Grants

There is now a similar scheme associated with solar thermal panels too. This is known as the Renewable Heat Incentive and pays a higher rate quarterly for seven years. As well as solar thermal, biomass boilers and heat pumps are also eligible for the RHI payments.

There is also the Renewable Heat Premium Payment (RHPP) which offers a grant for your renewable technology. Solar thermal panels are eligible to receive up to £600 in funding for the installation.

This grant can be received from the Department of Energy and Climate Change and you’ll be issued with a voucher which needs to be used in a pre-determined period. This can be within 10 days and failure to use the voucher will invalidate its worth.

Once the thermal panels are installed you’ll then receive RHI payments too, ensuring you save and earn a fortune with your renewable power.
